Lili and Mila’s Pet Empawrium Accessibility & Inclusion Plan
Lili and Mila’s Pet Empawrium, 2 Land of Green Ginger, Hull HU1 2EA
Our Aim
We want everyone to feel welcome, safe and included at Lili and Mila’s Pet Empawrium. This plan explains how we support disabled people and what we’re doing to be more accessible.
1. Our Commitment
. All our staff are getting training to better understand disabilities, including hidden disabilities like autism or chronic illness.
- We have chosen a team member to focus on making sure our business stays accessible and listens to feedback.
2. Getting into Our Building
- Important: Our shop is in a very old building. It does not have permanent step-free or wheelchair access. We can provide a temporary ramp at the side entrance. Please contact us before visiting so we can have it ready.
- Our entrance is clearly signed, and we are happy to help customers get in safely.
- Aisles inside the shop are wide and kept clear for people using mobility aids or assistance dogs.
- There are a range of seating options in our café, including space for wheelchairs.
- Our toilet is not suitable for some disabled customers. We're working to improve this. We have a staff toilet that any customer can use that does not use a wheelchair.
-The flooring is flat and non-slip to help avoid trips and falls.
3. Information in Different Formats
- We’re creating a simple version of our menu and services with pictures, which is great for autistic visitors and those with learning disabilities.
- Our signs are simple and in black and white t avoid overstimulation.
-You can also ask for digital versions of our information or email us in advance if you have a specific format you need.
- We are looking at cafe menus when it is up and running and we hope to include braille menus.
.4. A Calmer Environment
- We offer closed 15 minute sessions “quiet sessions” where people can shop privately we can also lower the music. These are helpful for people who are
autistic or easily overwhelmed and for dogs that also struggle.
5. Assistance Dogs Are Welcome
- All assistance dogs are welcome in the shop and café.
- We provide fresh water bowls and a safe toilet area for assistance dogs. We offer water to any dogs needing it and humans.
6. Online and Booking Help
- Our website is being checked and updated to make it easier to use with screen readers or keyboard navigation.
- If you book a party or workshop with us, we can send access details ahead of your visit.
- If you have unpredictable health, we offer flexible bookings and refunds.
7. Events and Workshops
- We design events with accessibility in mind — such as visual schedules for neurodivergent visitors.
- Free entry is available for a companion or carer, if needed.
8. Your Feedback Matters
- We are creating a simple way for you to leave feedback about access — online or in person.
- Every year, we review our plan to see what’s working and what we can improve.
